The first time most of us saw a dragon boat was in June 2010 at UL Sport Adventure Centre in Killaloe. Fiona Tiernan had discovered what we believe were the only two dragon boats in the country at the time. Experienced coach, Julie Doyle took on the challenge of running her first helm course in Ireland with a totally novice crew.
The first helms up were Maria McNally and Liz O'Ferrall, both with experience in canoeing. They had come to our open day and offered to help us get started. Maureen Shelly a friend of Fiona's also took the plunge along with Plurabelles Margaret Mulcahy and Marian O'Dea.
