  • Tickled Pink at Plurabelle Baby Shower

I think it’s safe to say that Plurabelle Paddler Ciara Devine was totally shocked and ‘tickled pink’ by the surprise baby shower hosted by the Plurabelles in the clubhouse yesterday.
Ciara’s due date for her second daughter is fast approaching and the Plurabelles were thrilled to celebrate such an exciting time for Ciara and her family.
When Ciara, her hubby Alan and daughter Fia called in to the clubhouse for a post-training coffee and they were met by a sea of pink. As well as balloons, cupcakes, there was also cake & a teddy bear for Fia , a hamper and a baby blanket (hand-knitted by many of the club members). No wonder Ciara was a little shell-shocked! Is there anything that the amazing Plurabelles can’t do?… Yes, they’re fantastic paddlers & tough competitors too…Well done ladies and best of luck Ciara! • Plurabelles welcome Operation Transformation!

So, did you see it? RTE1’s Operation Transformation (Wed 24th Jan) featured the Plurabelle Paddlers as we welcomed the leaders, and presenter Kathryn Thomas, to a training session at Dublin’s Grand Canal Dock. This year’s leaders certainly got to experience just how physically exerting the sport of dragon boat racing is!

Well done to our own Jean Henry who was interviewed for the show. Jean spoke wonderfully about what Plurabelle Paddlers means to her. Tonight we showed the nation our commitment to overcoming fear about illness and our desire to maintain fitness and wellness with each and every paddle stroke.

You can view photos here. If you didn’t see the show, you’ll be able to catch up on the RTE player

If you live in the greater Dublin region and have had a breast cancer diagnosis, you can find out about paddling with us on the Try it Out page of this website. Please note that our next ‘Come & Try’ session will be in April. Please email newmembers@plurabellepaddlers.com to register your interest (you will need to be 3 months post-treatment to paddle with us).

You can find out more about the many dragon boat racing clubs located around the country (both breast cancer and general clubs) at the Irish Dragon Boat Association website.

  • Operation Transformation

Like thousands and thousands of Irish television viewers we’re glued to this year’s Operation Transformation on RTE One. One of this year’s leaders – Sarah O’Callaghan – has lymphoedema as a result of breast cancer treatment. Thank you Sarah for placing a spotlight on this condition. We’ll be rooting for you & for all of the leaders.
