Regatta…in the rain!

Congratulations to the team from Plurabelle Paddlers who – despite the inclement weather – finished the recent Athy Regatta in a very impressive 4th place overall. (View a video of the Plurabelles in action at the Athy regatta here – with thanks to Mairead)

Although the Plurabelles emerged as the top breast cancer club at the regatta, there is no time for celebrations; attention is now focused on the forthcoming Barrow Regatta in Carlow on the 11th June. Let’s just hope for better weather! (details of race results and forthcoming regattas can be found on the IDBA website)

  • Plurabelles feature in National Cancer Strategy

Did you see our picture in the National Cancer Strategy? The Strategy – which was formally launched by the Minister for Health on 5th July 2017 – features a photograph of our two boats racing on the Grand Canal Dock. The impressive action shot says more about ‘Life after Cancer’, than any amount of words!

But the Plurabelle Paddlers’ involvement in the Cancer Strategy wasn’t just confined to the photograph. Fiona McEntee – a Plurabelle Paddler and a committee member with Europa Donna Ireland (the breast cancer patient advocacy group) – was a member of the National Cancer Strategy’s Patient Forum. Well done to Fiona and all the paddlers/members of Europa Donna who worked so hard on the development of the Strategy and who spoke so eloquently to the media afterwards on the patient perspective. • She’s Here!

She arrived…and in time for our mid-week training session. Our new (as yet un-named) blue boat had her maiden outing on Grand Canal Dock on 28th June… and the unanimous consensus is that ‘she paddles like a dream’! We hope that she brings us as much joy as ‘Anna’ our old blue boat did. (View photos here)

  • Farewell ‘Anna’!

Saturday, 24th June was a poignant day for the Plurabelles, as we said goodbye to ‘Anna’ (our blue boat).¬†We’ve had fun sessions -and very serious competitive races – in the ‘Anna’ boat over the past 7 years. She has served us well.

We’re getting a new boat shortly, so it’s time to say goodbye to ‘Anna’ (though ‘Livia’ – our pink boat – is remaining). It was sad to see ‘Anna’ go, but we’re very happy that she has got a new home in Kilkenny with the Nore Dragon Paddlers. I’m sure that ‘Anna’ will give Nore Dragon Paddlers as much joy, as she gave us! Click here to see photos of the Plurabelles ensuring that ‘Anna’ looked at her very best for Nore Dragon Paddlers.
